But I’m leaving now - ebay has some pretty strange policies now that seem to “demonize” sellers and leave us at the mercy of buyers (you just need one flakey buyer and ebay says you’re out - no recourse) . Seems to me Ebay is giving away the major, major thing that draws folks to their site - the fact that you can find ANYTHING on ebay - certainly getting less that way as their site gets clogged with stuff you can buy at Walmart or at a craft fair - too bad. After an hour and 40 minutes on eBay’s online customer service and being transferred to three different eBay departments, eBay never offered a phone number for the customer to call. I asked eBay to cancel the fraudulent auction sale and still nothing has been done, other then eBay collected fees for the fraudulent auction. They may or may not do as good but they all realized Ebay was a dead end street and they were given the message by ebay that they needed to find new futures. read more

I just wrote a knol, a Web article akin to an encyclopedia entry, using Google’s new Knol publishing platform launched publicly on Wednesday . So I did some research and wrote a knol titled ” The pitfalls of stereotyping pit bulls . It also took a few hours for the system to index my knol so it could be searched via the main Knol page and even then, it only initially showed up when I searched by subject (pit bulls) but not by author name. What’s smart is that the same model that works for comics on Funny or Die can be scaled to other genres like snowboarding ( ShredOrDie ), Food ( EatDrinkOrDie ), and gaming ( PwnOrDie ). Tapulous , the creators of Twinkle as well as Tap Tap Revolution (also formerly a jailbroken iPhone app), have created a universal profile system that goes across all of its applications. Lately, I’ve seen a few publishing services that let content creators do this (see Apture and Zemanta ) , but Vysr’s solution is more voluntary, and it is aimed at users who want to look things up from very targeted services without having to rely on the built-in search box in their browser. read more

Yahoo says fending off the hostile takeover bid from Microsoft cost the company $22 million that otherwise would have gone to the bottom line and Yang told listeners in a conference call that Icahn’s proxy battle was a ‘distraction’, which in a way was admitting Yang’s board was not up for a fight with the billionaire in combination with Microsoft. While the market appears to have given Yahoo a break on its earnings in the face of fighting off the Icahn/Ballmer pact , with Ichan being given a place on the board - several places in fact - the place to be if you enjoy high-tech entertainment will be the annual shareholders meeting early in August. There, the move by Icahn to break up Yahoo, giving Microsoft its search-side control and the rest being sold off - as Icahn sees it - may prove to be a very interesting day!
